[ The following content is a ‘novice-level speculation’ on subjective economics ]
[ For fun and the appearance of expertise, this is a written piece! ]
As of the end of 2023, there is a prevailing sentiment that the United States’ interest rate hike has already concluded. While writing this may not hold much significance as the economy of 2024 has already been somewhat confirmed, let’s craft this for fun.
Monitoring the employment rate and unemployment rate in the United States will still be crucial, but it is believed that the subtle economic downturn caused by the interest rate hike post-COVID has come to an end.
Since Korea has not raised interest rates like the United States has, it is unlikely to lower rates. However, with the pressure of interest rate hikes diminished, the economy seems poised for some stability.
In 2024, it is anticipated that various aspects of the economy, such as real estate and stock market investments, inflation, and employment, will stabilize to some extent. The United States is expected to stabilize at a slightly higher state than in 2023, while Korea is predicted to stabilize in a somewhat sluggish state similar to that of 2023.
it will be essential to keep an eye on the unemployment rate in the United States. Additional U.S. interest rate policies are likely to be contingent on it. If the unemployment rate rises, there may be a commencement of interest rate cuts. In such a scenario, although the overall economy may face challenges, it could act as a positive factor for the U.S. stock market. Additionally, as the pressure from interest rate hikes completely dissipates, it could also serve as a significant positive factor for Korea. However, if the unemployment rate does not rise, the United States may strive to maintain interest rates as high as possible. In this case, while Korea may not face significant pressure from interest rate hikes, it won’t experience complete relief, resulting in a somewhat ambiguous state similar to the present.
Originally, I thought there would be a significant unemployment rate issue by the end of 2023, but the economy is indeed behind schedule. In 2024, I anticipate discussions on the rise in the unemployment rate in the United States. Moreover, I believe the economy will progress in tandem with the increase in the unemployment rate in the United States.
[Added content in February 2024]
The unemployment rate in the United States continues to remain stable. Upon further investigation, it has been found that the working hours in the U.S. have decreased compared to the pre-COVID-19 era. It is unclear whether these are regular job positions, but due to this reduction in overall working hours, the unemployment rate is not increasing. If the trend of decreasing working hours persists, it could be interpreted as an increase in employment opportunities, potentially preventing a rise in the unemployment rate. If that is the case, it presents an intriguing situation
