[Series] House M.D. : The Ultimate Medical Drama Demonstrating Growth Until the End

House, an American medical drama, inspired by the Sherlock Holmes series, aired on Fox from November 16, 2004, to May 21, 2012, for eight seasons. It was created by David Shore and directed by Bryan Singer.

Starring Hugh Laurie (Gregory House), Lisa Edelstein (Lisa Cuddy/Dean of Medicine), Robert Sean Leonard (James Wilson), Omar Epps (Eric Foreman), Jennifer Morrison (Allison Cameron), Jesse Spencer (Robert Chase), Olivia Wilde (Remy Hadley), Peter Jacobson (Chris Taub), Amber Tamblyn (Martha M. Masters), Odette Annable (Jessica Adams), and Charlyne Yi (Park Ji), among others. As it’s been 20 years since the show, many of the guest actors who played patients or people around the patients have become famous actors. There are too many to list individually, but their performances add to the enjoyment of the show.

<하우스>는 셜록 홈즈 시리즈를 모티브로 제작된 미국의 의학 드라마이다. Fox에서 2004년 11월 16일부터 2012년 5월 21일까지 8시즌동안 방영되었다. 데이비드 쇼어가 기획하고, 브라이언 싱어가 연출을 맡았다.

휴 로리(그레고리 하우스), 리사 에델스타인(리사 커디/병원장), 로버트 숀 레너드(제임스 월슨), 오마 엡스(에릭 포어맨), 제니퍼 모리슨(앨리슨 캐머런), 제시 스펜서(로버트 체이스), 올리비아 와일드(레미 헤들리), 피터 제이콥슨(크리스 타웁), 앰버 탬블린(마사 M. 마스터즈), 오뎃 애너블(제시카 애덤스), 샬린 이(박지) 등이 출연했다. 20년이 지난 작품이기 때문에 각 에피소드의 환자 혹은 환자 주변의 인물로 단역을 맡은 배우들 중에, 현재는 유명한 배우가 많이 있다. 여기에서 일일히 나열하기에는 너무 많은 배우가 나온다. 보는 재미가 있다.

When I first watched it without knowing anything, it felt like watching Detective Conan. That feeling of ‘the culprit is you.’ Once I found out it was inspired by Sherlock Holmes, it made sense. Detective Conan was surely inspired by Sherlock Holmes too, so there are similarities.

It’s the best medical drama. Very enjoyable. Even at this distracting moment, it’s a remarkable piece that can still capture my attention. It’s not just entertaining as a medical drama; the well-developed stories are also engaging. As a medical drama, it’s moving. Plus, it’s mixed with comedy. It’s a series of ups and downs. The actors’ performances are outstanding, the structure is great, and the scripts are almost divine. I often wondered, how do they develop the story like this? The OST is also good.

I think I spent almost a month of personal time just watching House. It was a very good time. It’s a show that demonstrates how humans grow until they die, giving me hope that I can also grow more. House, Wilson, Cuddy, Foreman, Cameron, Chase, Hadley, Taub, Thirteen, Jessica, Park… I won’t forget them.

There were many shortcomings in the translation, and it was very regrettable that Cuddy didn’t appear in Season 8, but other than that, it was perfect from start to finish.

Until now, I had never felt that American medical dramas were better made than Korean medical dramas, despite watching many domestic and foreign medical dramas. Dramas like “Doctor Prisoner” or “Hospital Playlist” were much better than “Grey’s Anatomy” or “The Good Doctor.” Especially with “The Good Doctor,” I felt that way because Korea has its own original version. However, I was shocked when I recently watched “House.”

The best medical drama. Will there ever be a medical drama that surpasses this one? It is a great masterpiece. Great!

처음에 아무것도 모르고 봤을 때는 명탐정 코난을 보는 느낌이었다. “범인은 바로 당신이야.” 이런 느낌. 알고 보니 셜록 홈스가 모티브라고 한다. 명탐정 코난도 분명히 셜록 홈스를 모티브로 만들었을 테니 비슷한 부분이 있는 것 같다.

최고의 의학 드라마이다. 매우 재미있다. 집중이 안 되는 요즘 같은 때에도 나에게 집중을 줄 수 있었던 상당한 작품이다. 의학 드라마로써도 재미있고, 잘 묻어나는 이야기들도 재미있다. 의학 드라마답게 감동도 있다. 또 코미디까지 잘 섞여 있다. 희로애락이 모두 있는 작품이다. 배우들의 연기도 뛰어나고, 구성도 좋으며, 각본은 거의 신들린 수준이다. 어떻게 이렇게 전개를 하지? 이런 생각을 많이 한 것 같다. OST도 좋다.

거의 한 달 동안 개인 시간은 모두 닥터 하우스를 보는 것에 사용한 것 같다. 매우 좋은 시간이었다. 인간은 태어나서 죽을 때까지 성장해 나간다는 것을 보여주는 작품이었고, 나도 더 성장할 수 있을 것이라는 희망이 생긴다. 하우스, 윌슨, 커디, 포어맨, 캐머런, 체이스, 헤들리, 타웁, 써틴, 제시카, 팍… 이들을 잊지 못할 것 같다.

번역에서 아쉬운 점이 많이 있었고, 시즌8에 커디가 출연하지 않는 것이 매우 아쉬웠으나, 그 외에는 정말 처음부터 끝까지 완벽했다.

지금까지 많은 국내외의 많은 의학 드라마를 보았고, 미국 의학 드라마가 한국 의학 드라마보다 잘 만들었다는 느낌을 받은 적이 없었다. <닥터 김사부>나 <슬기로운 의사생활>과 같은 드라마가 <그레이 아나토미>, <굿 닥터> 등 보다 훨씬 좋았기 때문이었다. 특히 <굿 닥터>는 한국이 원작을 가지고 있기 때문에 더 그렇게 생각을 했다. 하지만 이번에 뒤늦게 <하우스>를 보고 충격을 받았다.

최고의 의학 드라마. 이 드라마를 넘는 의학 드라마를 앞으로 다시 볼 수 있을까? 위대한 작품이다. Great!
