The cast includes Will Uzo Aduba (as Edie Flowers), Matthew Broderick (as Richard Sackler), Taylor Kitsch (as Glen Kryger), and West Duchovny (as Shannon Schaeffer).

The series depicts the illegal OxyContin certification, marketing, and distribution practices of Purdue Pharma, owned by the Sackler family. In the show, Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family are portrayed essentially as drug dealers. Based on true events, it offers a glimpse into the opioid crisis in the United States.

<페인킬러>는 2023년 8월에 공개된 넷플릭스 오리지널 드라마이다. 미카 피처맨-블루와 노아 하프스터가 각본을 맡았고, 피터 버그가 감독을 맡았다. 우조 아두바(에디 플라워스), 매튜 브로데릭(리차드 새클러), 테일러 키치(글렌 크라이거), 웨스트 듀코브니(섀넌 쉐퍼) 등이 출연한다.

리차드 새클러와 그의 가문이 소유한 퍼듀 퍼마사의 불법적인 옥시코틴 인증/마케팅/유통 과정을 그린 내용이다. 이 드라마에서 퍼듀 퍼마사와 새클러 가문은 사실상 마약상으로 그려진다. 실화를 기반으로 하며, 미국의 마약 문제의 일부를 볼 수 있는 내용이다.

This series, based on a true story, effectively critiques societal issues while maintaining a high level of quality in its script, direction, acting, and music. It accurately addresses real-world problems in line with its thematic focus.

Having seen “House,” I already knew about oxycodone. Even Dr. House, who was addicted to Vicodin, collapsed after taking a few oxycodone pills. It’s saddening to think that they’re recklessly distributing oxycodone made from such pills. Thanks to this series, I’ve gained insight into why America views those involved in drug distribution as victims and the lenient reasons behind it. Knowing that similar incidents persist, it’s sobering to realize that despite its prosperity, America can be a frightening place in certain respects.

Overall, it was a rare and outstanding series rooted in reality. Good!

실화를 기반으로 문제를 지적하는 드라마로, 상당히 완성도가 높다. 각본, 연출, 연기, 음악까지 모두 다 훌륭한 수준이다. 또한 이 드라마의 취지에 알맞게 현실의 문제도 정확히 지적하고 있다.

닥터 하우스 덕분에 옥시코돈에 대해서는 알고 있었다. 바이코딘에 중독된 닥터 하우스도 옥시코돈 몇 알 먹고 훅 갔었는데, 그 옥시코돈으로 만든 옥시코틴을 마구잡이로 유통하다니, 대단하다. 이 드라마 덕분에 미국이 마약을 하는 사람들을 피해자로 보는 이유, 그리고 관대한 이유에 대해 잘 알 수 있게 되었다. 이런 비슷한 일이 계속 일어난다니, 잘 사는 좋은 나라 이면에, 또 한편으로는 참 무서운 나라라는 생각도 든다.

모처럼 좋은 실화 기반 드라마였다. Good!
