<Queen of Tears> is a 16-episode drama aired on tvN from March 9, 2024, to April 28, 2024. It was streamed simultaneously on TVING and Netflix. The script was written by Park Ji-eun, and directed by Jang Young-woo and Kim Hee-won. The cast includes Kim Soo-hyun (Baek Hyun-woo), Kim Ji-won (Hong Hae-in), Park Sung-hoon (Yoon Eun-sung), Kwak Dong-yeon (Hong Su-cheol), Lee Ju-bin (Chun Da-hye), Kim Gap-soo (Hong Man-dae), Lee Mi-sook (Mo Seol-hee), Jung Jin-young (Hong Beom-joon), Kim Jung-nan (Hong Beom-ja), Na Young-hee (Kim Seon-hwa), Park Yoon-hee (Hong Beom-seok), Jeon Bae-soo (Baek Du-kwan), Hwang Young-hee (Jeon Bong-ae), Jang Yoon-joo (Baek Mi-sun), Kim Do-hyun (Baek Hyun-tae), Kim Young-min (Kim Young-song), Kim Joo-ryoung (Grace Go), Yoon Bo-mi (Na Chae-yeon), and Moon Tae-yu (Kim Yang-gi).

[시리즈] 눈물의 여왕 – 한국 로맨틱 코미디 드라마의 정수

<눈물의 여왕>은 2024년 3월 9일부터 2024년 4월 28일까지 방영한 tvN의 16부작 드라마이다. TVING과 NETFLIX에서 동시에 스트리밍하였다. 극본은 박지은이 맡았고, 연출은 장영우와 김희원이 맡았다. 김수현(백현우), 김지원(홍해인), 박성훈(윤은성), 곽동연(홍수철), 이주빈(천다혜), 김갑수(홍만대), 이미숙(모슬희), 정진영(홍범준), 김정난(홍범자), 나영희(김선화), 박윤희(홍범석), 전배수(백두관), 황영희(전봉애), 장윤주(백미선), 김도현(백현태), 김영민(김영송), 김주령(그레이스 고), 윤보미(나채연), 문태유(김양기) 등이 출연했다.

In Korean series, there are two distinct styles: one is the over-the-top dramas favored by the older generation, and the other is the romantic comedy dramas characteristic of the younger generation. This drama falls into the latter category, showcasing all the strengths of Korean romantic comedy dramas.

• In fact, the essence of both the over-the-top dramas favored by the older generation and the romantic comedy dramas characteristic of the younger generation is similar. They can be seen as the over-the-top style of the older generation and the over-the-top style of the MZ generation. They are all over-the-top styles.

Furthermore, this drama also highlights the typical shortcomings of Korean dramas. Since there isn’t enough momentum to sustain a 16-episode series, episodes 13 and 14 are forcibly prolonged, resulting in excessively dull content. It seems that this issue could be resolved by either allocating more time to the script or reducing the number of episodes in the series, but it’s probably not an easy fix due to financial constraints. Ultimately, this flaw causes the quality of the work to be a notch below its original standard.

Excluding the boredom of episodes 13 and 14, this is an excellent work that showcases the essence of Korean romantic comedy dramas. The script, direction, acting, and OST were all commendable. Good!

우리나라 시리즈에는 특유의 두 가지 스타일이 있다. 하나는 윗 세대의 막장 드라마이고, 또 하나는 요즘 세대 특유의 로맨틱 코미디 드라마이다. 이 드라마는 이 중 특유의 로맨틱 코미디 드라마에 해당한다. 우리나라 로맨틱 코미디 드라마의 모든 장점을 보여주는 작품이다.

• 사실 윗 세대의 막장과 요즘 세대 특유의 로맨틱 코미디의 본질은 비슷하다. 예전 세대의 막장과 MZ의 막장으로 볼 수 있다. 모두 막장이다.

또한 우리나라 드라마 특유의 단점도 보여주는 작품이다. 16부작을 이끌고 갈 수 있는 힘이 없으니, 13화와 14화는 억지스럽게 끌고 간다. 해당화는 지루하기 그지없는 내용이다. 극본에 시간을 더 쓰던가 아니면 시리즈의 양을 줄이면 해결될 것 같은데, 아마도 돈과 관련된 부분이라서 해결이 쉽지 않은 것 같다. 결국 이 단점으로 인해 작품의 수준은 원래 수준에서 늘 한 단계 아래 급이 된다.

지루했던 13화와 14화의 단점을 제외한다면, 우리나라 로맨틱 코디디 드라마의 정수를 보여주는, 훌륭한 작품이다. 극본, 연출, 연기, OST 모두 좋았다. Good!
